Bridges: Old and New

A mother and child admire the view of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge from the ferry. On October 17th, 1989 this section of the bridge was damaged by an earthquake. It is not considered to be safe in an earthquake and is being replaced. In the foreground you see the old bridge and behind it is the new structure taking shape. The new bridge section is expected to be completed in 2012.
