only just saw this one, Carol. Definitely a Rufous sided Towhee. It doesn't show so much here, but they have red eyes. There are several images in my gallery of these birds, they are quite "shy" and we see them here each winter.

I looked in my bird book and the closest that I could see was rufus Towee[selling]? but they arent suppose to be as far east as Maine, so dont think it is them.
