About This Image

The sheets of star-like, white flowers of the wood anemone can be seen carpeting the woodland floor before the trees burst into leaf. The flowers are often streaked with pink or purple, especially on the outside, and are carried on a reddish stem. Like many other spring flowers, but more obviously than most, they face the sun throughout its daily journey from horizon to horizon. They are faintly scented but without nectar - an example of 'natural cheating'.

Thanks Chriss, Carol and Anne. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this image and the description. Yes, Anne, the light just hit the group of Anemones in the centre of the image, almost like a spotlight had just been turned on. :)

I have always loved the Anemones and so happy to find them in such a lovely setting. I thought I saw some ivy leaves - which I also love. Also the brightness of the middle flowers - was the sunlight shining on them? The trailing vines added to the beauty also. I wish everyone could realize how beautiful the woods can be. A great picture.
