About This Image

This is my first real attempt at drawing something with my new Wacom tablet that I got for Christmas, which is a computer device that works with software such as PhotoShop or Corel Painter to simulate drawing with pencils (in this case), but can also be used to simulate paint and ink too.

The drawing depicts a wizard holding a magical staff and a burning candle.

I don't pretend that I'm any good at this, so please be gentle with your comments. :)

For a first attempt with a new medium you have a good future in drawing, the white background highlights the stance of your wizard.

I wanted it to look like it was done with grey & black graphite pencils, since I wasn't ready to tackle a color picture just yet. I used Corel Painter Essentials 2 (which comes with the Wacom). It has about 5 brushes (I finally found them by accident by right-clicking.) Think of the Wacom pen as a mouse - except that you have the control of a pen. You're only limited by your software (PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, Painter, etc) and your imagination. The best thing with the Wacom tablet is that you can erase the paper without leaving pencil indentations, and you can't smear the lead like you could with traditional drawings.

I've done some mouse drawing in PSP and Photoshop and i notice this is grayscale? Is this your only option or is this for effect? I notice the different brush widths. Man this is awesome. Do you have any filters or plugins for it yet (or does it really take any?)

I worked on it on and off for a few hours. Thanks for your comment.

I think it's very good. How long did it take you to do this drawing? Looks like a lot of work went into it. I haven't tried drawing with my Wacom yet.
