Hi Hellie, thanks for your guess, - no, it's not a brooch of any type. Am happy that you noticed the type of iridescence on the metal, - there's not much of it, but thought it was quite pretty.

The "oil on water" colours in the silver part remind me of abalone shell (called paua shell here), is it some sort of brooch? :o)
