Thanks for your comments. No nest this year. A pair were on my deck one day a couple of weeks ago apparently home shopping. I had rearranged my deck, but made sure there was what I thought was a perfect nesting spot. For whatever reason, they checked it all out, and left never to return.

They're such a funny shape, all round and fat with such long necks - very appealing :) I can just imagine how soft and warm the father is, you've captured the scene so well it's easy to 'feel' it in my mind.
