About This Image

You may have heard of the Layfayette Crosses in Lafayette, CA. Some local individuals have covered a hillside with crosses in memory of those soldiers who have died in Iraq. There is a cross for each soldier killed. It is a political hotspot, with anti-war protestors periodically gathering for rallies and those who support the war bitter that the memorial is intended to undermine the war effort.

I happened to be driving by there on the day that the milestone of 4000 troops killed in Iraq was announced. There was a rally going on, and having my camera, I decided to get some shots. I must admit 4000 crosses seem like quite a large number when displayed on the hillside. At one point, I climbed the hill and got this shot near the sign at the top of the hill.

A very thought provoking image and, very sad, in this day and age, that mankind can't all get on together and live peacefully! So many lives lost unnecessarily. :(
