About This Image

Near Tucson, Arizon I saw that even among the thorniest living things, there seems to be tranquil diversity. As a matter of fact, the one cactus is almost watching over, mothering, the cactus below even though they are not of the same breed.

Carol, Karenmoen and Whittler113, thanks so much for your comments. The desert is a lot more gorgeous than I ever would have imagined. Definitely not the barren waste-land that I had pictured in my mind.

Don, I agree about the prettiest weeds (well phrased, Bubbalinn). And I appreciate your Eastern point of view. We only moved out west 9 months ago and had spent the rest of our lives back east (NY and VA). I hope you make it on that trip. You are going to LOVE it! And what a perfect time to go (and a perfect time to escape the frigid weather you are suffering from now!). Good luck!

Bubbalinn, thanks for the information! We learned a bit about the cacti when we went to the Saguaro National Park but I didn't know how to estimate the ages. And fwiw, the name "Saguaro" is not pronounced ANYthing like it appears...hooked on phonics definitely did not help out on this one :-)

These cacti really show up well against the deep blue sky! I love the different shapes, sizes and textures of these plants (?) and the varying colours of green through yellow. A lovely desert landscape. :)

A very pretty desert scene.

This really shows off the turquoise skies for which the southwest is famous.

Nice cacti image Aprilcotton! Very nice capture. I think you guys have the pretiest weeds too Alan :-). It is so different out there than it is here in the East. I am excited, a friend of mine is headed off to Arizona for a week in Febuary and asked if I'd like to go along to do some photography. It looks like it is a go! I hope some of the desert flowers are blooming by then, can't wait! Don

Very nice photo of the beautiful cactus, it makes me feel right at home.. The tall cactus are Saguaro, the ones with three arms or more are around 200 years old. The little ones are the Prickly Pare. I think we have the prettiest weeds LOL...
