What a stunningly beautiful Himalayan or Mountain Goat or Thar!! Wow!! And what a background for him!! He could have been posing, he is so perfect!! I also loved the yellow of the tip of the branch having yellow in it. Were those flowers or the leaves changing. A fantastic and beautiful picture. I loved it!!

Hi Tania, thanks for looking in, he is quite healthy, but I dont think Tim grooms them, Ness said they smell terrible, like an old billy goat.

Thanks A.Lovely, I know that as soon as these animals see you the are off, but I wouldent like to corner one, My daughter tryed to save one lost from its mother, it was very small and he would charge her when she went to feed it, even though it was unwell.

Thankyou Whittler and Talsi for looking in and the kind comments, Tim said he managed th get quite close to this animal because it was blind in the one eye, even so still took quite a bit of time to get near him, he must have being determind to get this photo.A beautful looking animal Talsi, yes its a Tahr.

Nice capture - I like the catchlight in his eye. Is this animal a Thar? I have never heard of one.

Thankyou sparkle and Nikon-nut, I'll double check with Tim later, but my understanding is is a Himalayan Mountain Goat, these were introduced into New Zealand quite some years ago, but only in the South Island, they live in the mountain ranges, they are very nimble on the rocks and move at quite some speed, the reason Tim got so close to this guy is that he was blind in one eye, the eye you see, its being digitaly replaced by Tim from another tahr, I think he did a really good job.

An interesting beast. I'm guessing a sheep.
