About This Image

St Augustine Light Station overlooks the oldest city in the United States. We were there on Palm Sunday with the Blessing of the Boats in full swing in the harbor, so decided to settle for climbing the lighthouse instead, and visit the city on another occasion. I was delighted to see a number of Wood Storks busy gathering materials for their nests located in a grove of trees nearby. The lighthouse keepers' living quarters across the way featured an exhibit of painting by US Coastguard men - several were related to the Life Saving Service and the Midgett family who we learned about last summer while on the Outer Banks.

Thank you, Carol and Alandra. I can't wait to get back to the area and spend a few days - it's so picturesque, but Palm Sunday was far too hectic to enjoy it.

very attractive lighthouse and interesting writeup, Vicki, thanks for sharing. The Blessing of the Boats is a nice idea. I also like the Blessing of the Pets at some churches also.
