About This Image

The underside of the spider is sometimes more interesting that the top. You can see where the webs emerge as well as where its legs join up to the body. Often nature is beautiful in its viciousness. It's a good thing these things are only an inch or two long rather than the size of a small car. We'd all be in big trouble, if that was the case. I think this one is a garden spider.

Thanks Kimberly. I don't know what kind of spider it is; however, I don't think it's dangerous. We only have a couple of poisonous spiders in Utah, and this isn't one of them.

This is an excellent photo. Brian, you might be able to extract that information from your EXIF data in Photoshop from the original file, if you still have it. I'd be curious to know myself. I use a Fuji as well.

I have a spider very simular to the one above located on the upper left corner of my garage door. I inadvertanly broke one of the support strands for his/her web... it began immediately to completely remove the old web and build a new one. it took a total of about two hours to build it. I watched in amazement at the detail and acrobatic ability of this spider

Thanks for your comments. I used a basic 28-80mm lens. This was taken at 80mm on the macro preset. Sorry, I don't remember what the aperture and shutter speed settings were. Those large grey blurry areas are rocks that make up the perimeter of the marina at The Great Salt Lake.
