About This Image

Photo taken at a shop in Pittsburgh's Strip District - it sounds like a red light district but it is really a region known for its wholesalers, restaurants and funky shops. The Strip is a favorite weekend destination for Pittsburghers and is a must-see for out-of-town visitors.

Traditionally, the Strip District, a flat strip of land on the Allegheny River's south shore just east of Downtown, was filled with warehouses and small factories. The restaurants were there primarily to service the Strip's workers. It has only been in the past 20 years or so that retail shops, wholesalers with retail front-ends, restaurants and dance clubs have opened.

I gave the photo a painterly look using curves to adjust and filters in photoshop.

Don, Alandra and Vicki, thanks for your comments/feedback. I was trying for a Norman Rockwell look on this photo and the man did have (age) marks on his face which were enhanced when I did the edit. I could have worked on them I suppose to make them less noticable. I might post the "true" image Vicki before the editing. :)

I have to agree with Alandra on this one Mary. I'd love to see the true image. Older people like this shopkeeper don't need enhancement. Their natural appearances are telling in their own right. I do like the base composition - it has great merit in itself. Vicki

I agree, interesting also. I really like the way the background turned out, but (hope you don't mind me saying this) - can't say I like the way the shopkeeper's complexion shows up :)

Very cool work Mary! It really does look like painted art. Well done. Don
