About This Image

St. Augustine harbor is normally a picturesque sight. When setting sail for a one-hour cruise, I don't think the passengers on the sloop 'Freedom' expected to see a sunken boat in their path!

I left the crane in this photo on purpose. The 'Freedom' had just sailed under a makeshift elevator drawbridge, erected while the original 'Lion' bridge is being rebuilt. Once completed, in about two years, the temporary structure will be torn down.

Thank you for your comments, Alex and Steve. I agree, Alex - I'm also surprised that the sunken vessel is still there - it is a busy harbor - even with mostly pleasure boats. As Steve noted - navigation issues are definitely a factor. The tide was out when I took this - when it's in, even less of the mast would be visible. Vicki

I like the contrast between the old technology of sail and the modernism of the steel cranes. I guess the wreck would certainly concentrate the mind if you're navigating!

Nice shot Vicki, its strange that they would allow that sunken boat to be left there.
