This is a new bird in our yard this morning.
Can anyone identify it?

Rufous sided Towhee

Visited my back yard on the west coast near Santa Barbara. I think they are just passing through. We are glad to have them.

only just saw this one, Carol. Definitely a Rufous sided Towhee. It doesn't show so much here, but they have red eyes. There are several images in my gallery of these birds, they are quite "shy" and we see them here each winter.

Thanks Mary and Steve. I looked in my bird book and the closest that I could see was rufus Towee[selling]? but they arent suppose to be as far east as Maine, so dont think it is them.

I have to do a search in my bird book....but a great capture Carol. The colors are beautiful.
