A wonderful picture!!! I hadn't seen a pheasant for years. They used to come into a nearby meadow and feed - groups of them. Beautiful. But times change and they had to leave this area.

Thanks everyone! Seeing this bird really caught me by surprise. Normally our Game Commission stocks pen raised pheasants in the fall before hunting season, but most of the birds actually fall pray to predators before the hunting season opens.

We dont see as many as we once did down here, but have to admit we did see quite a few in the South Island on our last visit.
