Yes they r unusal Tali, but quite common here in Aussie gardens. Boatanical name is Kniphofia, they r evergreen perennials which have grass like leaves with tall spikes of flowers.There are also dwarf varieties.Dwarf growing to 2ft and the tall growing to 5ft.My ones flower in Winter and put on a fantastic display which people always comment on. I think they are originally from South Africa, and are very hardy and tolerate exteme Aussie summers.Hope i was of some help.

I haave never heard of this type of flower. What type of climate does it like? Sure is unusual, reminds me of a duster. And what does it do in the winter?
