Rangitoto is a live, dormant, volcano.

Rangitoto was formed about 600 years ago during a series of eruptions that continued for several years. It is a live volcano, but dormant and could become active again. If a volcano has erupted in the last 10,000 years, it is considered to be a live volcano.
