About This Image

here's the parent owl, flying up with the dead rat, towards the baby owls, who were higher up in the cottonwoods.
- had never seen a view of an owl from this angle. The owl's legs/feet look like a cat, infact it looks like a cat body with owl wings : )
But it's a true photo of an adult Great Horned Owl. Hope everyone enjoys this series

Hi Vicki, yes it is pretty remarkable and strange : ) - The owl is carrying the rat in its beak!, as it flaps up to a branch a bit higher up, where the youngsters are. Am pretty sure I can see some talons there, on the owl's feet. The might retract them when airborne and put them out again when landing, - am not sure.

This is incredible, Alandra. But I can't see the owl's talons - I see the rat tail at the top of it, but how is the owl holding it? Great image. Vicki

Hi again Marilynn, - I think you must be looking at the owl's feet :) and owl's body :) as the rat's feet are too small to be seen here I believe. You can see the rat's tail higher up on near the owl's head.

Interesting picture. Are you sure it's a rat and not a small cat? Looks to furry to be a rat. Great Horned owls do take cats. The feet just don't look like a rat's.

thanks for leaving a comment, Alex D. Wasn't sure what I was looking at when I first saw this on the screen : )

Youre right. The owl looks like it has a cat's body and feet from underneath. Interesting. Great capture.
