About This Image

With great weather here in Arizona I had to get outside and chase some birds, rabbits, or anything I could find. I stopped at our towns park and before long I found some butterflies here and there. I know very little about butterflies and thought this was a Monarch but with some help from km I now know it is a Painted Lady.

Painted Lady: Not as well known as the Monarch, these butterflies also migrate.

This Painted Lady by looking at the ends of it's wings I think it has flown many many miles. This shot it looks like the butterfly is flying, but it was standing on top of some little purple flowers. When it opened it wings I took the shot and it's wings hid the flower it was enjoying.

Hey km, I thought those butterflies were Monarchs for years. I did a Google image search and I believe you are right.. Now I need to reprogram my brain. Thanks for the info and setting me straight. I know nothing about butterflies. I'm going to fix my description soon.

Nice shot. It looks like you caught it in flight. I think it may not be a monarch, though. It might be a Painted Lady. Whatever, it's a very nice pic.

Great that you finally got to go out Alan! Nice shot of the butterfly. The wings do look a little "worn". Thanks for sharing a little history on the Monarch.
