That's one of your best images Whittler. I've no idea what it really is, but here's what I thought of when I first looked at it: A giant volcano erupting from the earth from space. The earth is waxing or waning (I can't ever remember which is which), and the volcano is spewing its lava so high that it's going up and into the dark portion of the planet. The white reflections look like clouds to me.
