About This Image

One local favorite vegetable is mirliton, a vine grown pear shaped vegetable of the gourd family. They are excellent in cassarolles and stuffed. I am not a cook but I have eaten more then my share of mirliton. I could not find a full box because they go fast

I have not seen the seed pods so I can not make a comparison but I do know they had the same Creator.

Really nice photo of the mirlitons, it's amazing how close they look like the seed pods for our Spanish Dagger cactus.

That is quite interesting!! I thought the taste was familiar when I ate them but did not realize why.

interesting, Dud, not sure if I've ever eaten that or not. Apparently some other names are Chayote (which I had heard of) and christophine. I read on Google that it's the secret ingredient that MacDonalds use in their apple pies :)

In Australia we call this a choko (both o's rhyme with Joe). It is often cooked as a steamed vegetable, but can be added when cooking apples or pears to increase quantity.increase

You probably do not get them up north. I know the only place I ever heard of them was New Orleans. Even on the bayou I hear little about mirlitons.

Nice composition and angels. Never heard of mirliton before. I'm sure we don't get them up north.
