This is a cone from our Banksia tree, they are so unusual and the tree is covered with them all at different stages.

Thanks Steve, I must get some shots of them at different stages. I was actually going to alter this one and add litle cuckoo's popping out of the 'lips'!!! Thanks for having a look.

Excellent shot, Cindy. If my botanical memory serves me right, Banksias are some of the most "primitive" conifers still growing. Certainly one can see how cones have increased in complexity over geological time. These look as if they are covered with laughing, disembodied lips!!
