This bird is called a Godwit and scientist here track a few of them on their annual migration to Russia and the birds return here to the East Coast of the North Island,New Zealand.
This photo was taken on a stormy sort of day from inside a car at a bird santary,he was happily searching for worms.The females of this species have a claw on their wings.

Yes, this Godwit would certainly accrue some air miles huh? Wonderful capture of this bird and the flap of yellow skin around its eye, is very unusual. :)
