Rufous female hummingbird feeding on the nectar from the flowers in the hanging basket, taken from open front window, telephoto lens.
am not sure what the name of this flower is, it has a delicate scent.

again, many thanks, Plumeriagrl for the nice comments. I think this hanging basket will be quite an attraction for the hummingbirds, at least this one likes it.

Wow what a classic. This is perfect!!! I love how you have captured this bird hovering as it is feeding. The details are super. The DOF is great as the flowers in the backgroung make a great pattern.

thanks very much, Jim, for the encouragement. You know it took me a long time to make up my mind : ) I had no idea I'd get results like this with the camera, as thought it might be hard for me to figure out, never having any experience with SLR's. It always surprises me that hummingbirds are not in Australia and New Zealand.

We don't have hummingbirds in Aus so this seems very exotic. The colours are fantastic. You are certainly developing a deft hand (and eye) with the new gear.
