About This Image

female hummingbird with a diamond drop between her tiny feet, as she hovers above the fountain droplets at our lilypond, front patio.
I love all the diamond drops close to her body also.
Amazing how the wing movement can hardly been seen as she hovers there.
Captured from the farther open front window, with telephoto lens.

thankyou Golda for the nice comments, appreciated. glad you like it. And know what you mean, re the fierce determination in their eyes, as was just thinking along those same lines yesterday when viewing images of them.

Now that I have attempted to capture these little ones,I marvel at their fierce determination that is visible in the eyes. This is a great shot Alandra!!!

Hi Alex, thankyou. You have a good point there, or question. I don't know the answer :) The only thing I do know, is that I have the camera set to the same setting for all the "bird shots", (sports setting) and some of the images show the hummers' wings "stopped" while other images don't. Infact, some images show one wing stopped and the other wing is not visible. So it seems that this depends on which way the hummers are rotating their wings at the time their image is captured. Another strange thing is that on one of my images sent in today of the hummer at the gazing ball, -- the reflection of the hummer in the ball shows both wings stopped, whereas the actual hummer image (beside the ball) shows one wing "stopped", but the other wing is not visible. Now how does a person explain that one? :)

Another nice one, Alandra. I wonder how fast that shutter speed would have to be to capture it's wings in stopped motion.

Beautiful photo Alandra... Great colors and action. Sure shows how fast there wings are going with your shutter speed stopping the water drops but not the hummers wings.
