About This Image

This is the 'Harp Of The Wind' Lithograph by Homer D. Martin, an early American painter. A gift from my grandmother. I posted it for Alandra to see. It is framed in gold guilded plaster. Signed 'Martin' with the date 1895. The scene is the Seine in Northern France. It has always been one of my most cherished possessions. Thanks for looking. Don

I have this picture with the stamp on it metropolitan museum of art and #72 on it. It is a hard-back picture of the harp of the wind. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the picture being hardback. it is small, maybe an 8x10.

Hi Bob. Interesting! No I didn't realize that the original was in the Met Museum in NYC, thanks for the info. I measured it, and the outside dimensions are 11-1/2" x 14-1/2" (frame included). The glass/litho would measure 9" x 12" aproximately without the frame. What I've always found odd about it is that the litho is actually stuck/glued to the glass which is not a flat piece of glass, but is convex and bows out from the edges to about 1/2" in the center. The only writing I can ever remember seeing on it is on the bottom right, partly covered by the frame. 'Martin 1895'. I will give it a good looking over the next time I take it out of the frame though, just to see if I missed anything. It belonged to my Grandmother. My mother (77) did not know if she had aquired it from her parents or got it when she was young. Don

Don, An unusual lithograph. I suppose you know the original painting is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I am reseraching Homer Dodge Martin and would be interested in knowing th s size of the lithograph and any markings of publisher or printer on it.

A wonderful, beautiful paining - to be handed down through the family. I could hear the trees singing in both pictures. *g* Anne

Don, indeed it is a wonderful mood in this painting, you should take care of it, maybe you can make some money of it. Thank you for sharing.
