great blue herons courtship ritual. taken from quite a distance, from the open window of the SUV, we were on the road and the herons were over in a field. trying out the new extender.

thankyou Carol and Steve for the nice comments, had hoped some of you might enjoy seeing these, so am glad you did. We could hardly believe our eyes when it all happened, as initially we didn't realize there was another heron already there when the one we'd been watching, landed on the other field, and thought at first that maybe "a fight" was about to happen. Then this all began.

Agree with Carol that this is a fascinating series revealing so much about the behaviour of these birds. I particularly like this one because of the way the two necks echo each other, which makes them look like synchronised swimmers!
