About This Image

this hawk sat on the wire in the same spot, out front here for quite awhile today, while my DH worked out there, and stayed while I captured quite a few images. This hawk often sits in this same spot on this wire

thanks Brian, haven't seen the hawk here lately, but a barred owl has been visiting us instead, perching on these same wires, and also on the bird feeder holder, next to our driveway. One night I walked right below where the owl was sitting, with one of our Labs, and then back into the house again, and the owl didn't move.

What a beautiful bird. I think any day that you can photograph a hawk in the wild is a good day.

Hi Orchidea Blue, many thanks. And that's true, the hawk is lucky to be flying free.

Hello Alandra this is a beautiful bird and you framed it very well, at least it's a free bird & not one in a zoo or a cage.

thankyou again Anne. Glad you like it. I have a cute image of you as a girl, chasing the hawks away from your Mom's chickens :) Nice memories, right.

A beautiful picture. His tail feathers look like silk. I remember chasing many hawks away from my Mom's chickens. *g* But hawks also caught the mice, I believe, so they were a mixed blessing. *LOL* This is a beautiful speciman - for a bird book? Really great shot!!

thanks very much for the nice comments, Janice and Alex D. I'm not quite sure about the colour adjustments on my new monitor, - noticed on the old monitor that some of the latest pics look quite dark on the older type monitors, compared to how they show up on this new one, so am not sure how everyone's viewing them :)

The thumbnail certainly does not do this justice. Beautiful shot and detail. Great bokeh on this one.

Nice crisp shot. Those birds are so large when they fly. And they are so relentless. I once scared one out of a tree where is was going after some sparrows.

thankyou Don and Steve, glad you like the image. Yes, I love all the raptors also, altho feel sorry for their prey, but guess they all need to eat to survive.

Hawks are so majestic and pretty. I really like the 'don't mess with me' look this one has. Great looking capture Alandra. Don

A wonderful shot Alandra! I agree with Karen's comment about the beautiful markings. Interesting information about this hawk's habits!

thanks Karen, for the nice comments, glad you like it. I chose this one as also liked the look in its eye. They are so alert. Liked your description of the "pearls" on it's back, nice.

This is a great shot. I like how you caught that intense gaze. It has similar markings of one that terrified the finches and sparrows that live and feed in our yard. It had the dark bands on the tail and white markings on its back that reminded me of pearls.

thanks Mary. yes, definitely it's the vantage point, hoping for its meal, as we have lots of wild birds feeding here and squirrels. Had been pretty sure I'd seen it out the back earlier today also, but it flew up to a tall evergreen before I could get a good look at it then.

Nice capture and probably a good vantage point for observing a food source. :)
