Thank you Fella, Corbin and Sparkle for commenting. The flag here seemed symbolic to me of the death of a way of life. I realize these prices are still lower than most of the rest of the world has to pay and we should be grateful for that. Fuel prices of $6-$7 a gallon would probably cripple our economy. A recent article in National Geographic magazine predicts the world oil supplies will peak within 10 years and then begin to decline further increasing demand, and prices. The ramification of this should be obvious to all of us but it seems the automakers are still cranking out huge inefficient vehicles and we're collectively buying them. This increases the demand, keeps prices high, and further reduces the world's supply. Our children will pay for our lack of vision. These were the thoughts I had when I took this picture last year. The flag was at half mast for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. I appreciate your thoughts.

Great image here. The gas prices are very high for the USA but we have to remember how lucky we are. Im other places in the world gas is twice as much as it is here. Take for example South Korea. its like $6.00 a gallon.

Hi Talsi, Thank you for commenting. This photo was taken in September of 2005 and the flag is at half staff for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist who had just passed away. I also liked the symbolism of the flag and high gas prices when I took the shot.

I am always drawn to patriotic photos. Was there a reason the flag was at half mast, or is someone making a statement?
