Thank you, Jeanne and Vicki. I took some more shots of some baby sand hill cranes recently. I will post them for you to see, Vicki. Marsha

Am I ever glad I started looking from the BACK this time, Marsha! This is a terrific candid of the mother with her young. I've seen many of the adult Sand Hill Cranes around Southwest Florida Regional Airport (another Wetlands preserve) at Fort Myers, and I've watched them during migration near Kearney, Nebraska (a phenomenal sight). But I've never seen them with their young - or near a redidence. Great job! Vicki

Thank you all for your nice comments. This area of Florida has been developed with lots of green spaces and wetlands preserved, so there are a lot of birds living in the wetlands in the neighborhoods. And, the sand-hill cranes are protected and everyone here seems to really respect that. You will often see traffic stopped to allow them to cross the road safely.

What an unexpected sight. I wonder what attracted them to a place so close to humans. Great shot.
