Estrela Mountain Dog

This is Rico, my pride and joy. He is 5 now and he is the top guardian of my goats. He has kept the mountain lion, coyotes and packs of stray dogs from killing my livestock. He is very friendly with family and children, but suspicious and wary of strangers.

Beautiful dog. Is he your's and how old is he? His eyes/face have a gentle and intelligent look. Rather than ask more questions I did a google.com search on the breed and found some really interesting info. The Portuguese use them as police dogs. It is also an ideal family pet because of its alertness, loyalty, intelligence, and it’s instinct to nurture young; all features it needed in its earliest days. Thanks for sharing the photo.
