About This Image

While doing a jeep safari in Wayanad Kerala our intrusion was a bit too much for the male. Trumpeting repeadly he attacked our vehicle! Luckily our driver backed up on time.

You are right. It must have been a protective instinct for the calf that made him move towards us. Actually it is tourists like us who are to be blamed since we tell the poor driver to go closer for a better look. Thank you both for the comments.

thanks for sharing this, Shreekant. what a wonderful opportunity to see these elephants on this safari, altho it must have been a scare when the male started his antics : ) also glad you weren't harmed. Am noticing here how the calf is being shielded in between the older elephants, for protection. These are darker coloured than what I've seen before. I did see elephants at a zoo at Bristol, England, infact, had a ride on one when I was a kid LOL. that was also scarey, as the special seat contraption swayed from side to side quite a lot as the elephant moved, and the straps were creaking, funny how you never forget certain events : )- thanks for bringing back these memories
