About This Image

Ealing is a district of West London that had its own independent identity before London expanded and swallowed it up. This is a shot of its grandiose neo-gothic town hall.

The lighting was perfect for this architectural study. The clouds are beautiful.

Thanks Anne! It is a beautiful building, but also a deceptive one. It was in fact built only in 1930. It was very much the fashion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for architects of municipal buildings to model their efforts on grand gothic styles. I suppose they thought it gave the town a classier look, and added to its prestige to have a building that looked like it had been there much longer than it really had.
