About This Image

I was out walking around the desert by my house again looking for some new cactus bloom shots. Well I spotted some nice orange ones and walked up to take a photo. I put the camera up to my eye and started to compose the shot when I got a shock, there in my viewfinder were eyes looking at me. This dove scared me more than I think I did it. Anyway I just had to move about a foot to the right and got this photo of the dove protecting it's babies or eggs. Well it let me take at least five photos. In my haste I forgot to use my flash, but for this shot I used it showing it's head that was in the shade much better. I think if I put my hand by it, it would bite me before it would leave it's nest. I talked to it for a little after the photo shoot, then said thanks for the photos and left. I'm pretty sure I can find the nest again and will be checking up on the new family from time to time. Open the large photo then push your F11 key for the best view.

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword....wait there's even more Now what if i told you there was a simple Wordpress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That's right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin seo plugin

Hi Brian and Irisheaglesone, Thanks so much for your wonderful comments on my photo. Irisheaglesone, I'm glad you enjoyed my dove photo. I will try to get some more in the next few days.. Brian she did surprise me with not flying away, she just sat there and let me get real close to take some photos. I found the nest again yesterday and she is still there. I'm going to try and get photos of the eggs and the babies when they hatch.

Hi Karen, Alandra, Jas, Carol, and Ann.. Thank You All so much for your wonderful comments. Yea Karen they are hard to see, I still can't believe I walked up on this one and did not even see it. I also thought the same thing about the nest, what a mess. With it getting hot out here I guess the small and vented nest is the best for keeping the little ones cool. Hi Alandra, LOL I did not think about her using eyeliner.. Thanks Jas I'm glad you liked the large view. I guess the nest is built to Dove standards, maybe she broke the needles off before building the nest :) Hi Carol, Thanks for the thumbs up... I'm sure going to try and get some shots of the babies. Hi Ann, Thanks very much, I'm glad you liked my photo.

The large image is a must view! Great, unexpected, capture of the very pretty dove and a bonus to find her sitting on eggs/chicks? Hope she built the nest nice and thick to protect her and the chicks from the cactus spines. :)

wanted to add, after viewing the large image, that I love her aqua eyeliner too : ) She's so beautiful.

Beautifully captured mourning dove. This shot really shows how effective her coloring is for camouflage. Their nests always look like the twigs were thrown together in haste! Lol!

Hi Abba, You snuck in while I was typing. Thanks very much for the nice comment. I'm glad you liked my photo. Hey theres no tall buildings out here so they have to build there nests someplace ROFL...

Hi Vicki, Alandra, and Mary.. Thanks so much for looking at my photo and leaving your nice comments. It will be fun Vicki watching the nest as long as I can find it again :) Hey Alandra, I sure hope I get to see the little ones and get some shots. They are quite safe, the nest is a good four feet off of the ground and surrounded by cactus. They only thing that can get to them is a human or another bird. Hi Mary, I'm glad you got a kick out of the F11 thing. It works nice for seeing more of the pages no matter what web site your at.

Ahh, the wonders of the desert...I never would have imagined you'd find a dove hanging out in the cactus! A great shot with good clarity on the bird, especially considering that neither you nor the bird expected to see each other out!

A sweet capture Alan. Doves have such an air of innocence. I also like your F11 trick. My whole desktop disappeared! :)
alandrapal - Apr 28, 2008 09:28 PM EDT
that is sooo sweet, Alan! It looks as if the mama dove is wearing a necklace, too! What a wonderful sight to behold! A treasure for sure. Will look forward to seeing baby doves. Is the nest built right on the ground?, can't quite tell. I sure hope it will be safe from predators, but I guess that's the way nature is, all a bit risky.

Stunning image of the beautiful dove, Alan. Can't wait to see what happens after the chicks hatch. Vicki
