The mother duck get the advantage and successfully defends her territory. In this shot I was at least able to get the vulnerable group of ducklings in the background.

Several duck pairs around here have recently had ducklings. I am surprised by the amount of attention this raises among the duck population as a whole, (they all seem to group together) and occassional episodes of violence that explode. (Like this one). I saw two male ducks attacking a female today, but I was unable to get a shot of it on time. I was shocked how violent the encounter between them was.
