About This Image

While visiting relatives in Tampa Florida, I decided to drive over to Clearwater beach and try for a sunset. I was lucky enough to see and photograph an illusive green flash as the sun dropped below the horizon. And theneven luckier to have it picked to be posted on spaceweather.com today 09/22/09. It is a kind of weird mirage that is pretty rare. Thanks for looking! Don

Amazing! I had never heard of 'the green flash' until i visited my cousin in San Diego one year. I didn't see one, but would love to!

That is a really cool sunset. The green is definitely the focal point among all of that red. Are you sure that's a mirage and not some sort of UFO? I think we should let Mulder and Scully take a look to make sure.

Nice going! This is the first time I've seen this captured. I guess that settles the argument whether it really exists or is a visual phenomenon (all in our heads). I wonder if anyone has measured how long it lasts. Bruce
