About This Image

Same bird (California Least Tern). I just think these birds look pretty cool in flight.

Double checked this in my Birds of North America book. This is definitely not a Least Tern, it is a Common Tern. A least tern would have a yellow (not red or orange) bill and a partially white forehead. California Least Terns are very rare, and highly protected in this area.

Thanks for all your comments. This bird has such a wonderful shape in this photo. I think it makes a wonderful inspiration for something fast, like a sports car body. Regarding my "L" lens...I love it. It is extremely crisp and clear. I was trying to decide between a longer non-L lens (70-300mm with IS) and the 70-200mm. I was persuaded to get the shorter L lens, because of the high quality. I have not been dissapointed, only my wallet has.

Nice job with catching that speeding bird in flight and right on with the focusing. Looks like the bird is using some gravity for some extra speed :)
