About This Image

A clear blue sky, on a beautiful, sunny, dry day, in The Old Village, at Shanklin.
Shanklin is most famed for its good weather and the pretty Old Village, which is located on the south side of the town. The village is extremely pretty and most tourists head to the area for the thatched cottages, quaint shops and old fashioned tea rooms.

Thanks for viewing:)

Many thanks Art and Kelly, for the congrat's. I'm sure you would, both, think this place very quaint, should you ever visit and we have several villages like this on the island. I am very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. :)

Thanks Alandra, I'm glad you think so and well done for selling your hummingbird shots, although I'm not surprised as they're all beautiful. :)
alandrapal - May 28, 2008 02:05 AM EDT
yes, Jas, I think you certainly could sell some of your images. I just sold 3 of my hummingbird photos, so that was quite exciting.

Ann, Carol, Vicky and Karen; thank you all for the lovely comments you've left for my image of Shanklin Old Village! Ann, the village has several eateries and the building at the back of the village is a lovely old pub; lots of wonderful food and beer too. :) Carol...English cream tea would definitely be good to try; scones, jam and clotted cream - "Yum!" Vicki, am so glad you like this shot; it's one of the prettiest villages on the island. Karen, thatching is a dying art these days and it would be tragic to think that these wonderful roofs couldn't be restored again. Thanks for looking everyone! :)
Karen Moen - May 12, 2008 09:28 PM EDT
Beautifully captured quaint architecture. It is easy to see why tourists flock there. Sometimes modern loses some of its charm.
TravlynWomyn - May 11, 2008 05:10 PM EDT
Jas, this is beautiful - the thatched roofs sure make for wonderful Kodak moments and I really like the warmth of this overall image. Vicki

This is a lovely village scene, would love to visit the tea room. Carol
A.Lovely - May 11, 2008 04:42 PM EDT
Oh my, this is such a wonderfully captured village, Jas. It looks like a storybook photograph. The postcard idea from the others is really a good one. The shapes of the roofs is so wonderful. And do I see a little eatery on the left side? I would stop in for sure if I were there to visit.
Jas - May 02, 2008 03:45 PM EDT
Thank you for the lovely comments Alandra and Mary; you're very kind! My good friend did suggest postcards but I haven't done anything about it yet. After your comment Alandra, maybe I should trial it?? Mary, I'm so glad you like the photo's in my gallery. I like to photograph a variety of things and I'm now a little more 'self' critical about the images I post; there are so many talented artists on TLF, I sometimes feel that mine aren't quite good enough. Thanks for taking the time to look through my gallery and your comments are always, very much, appreciated. :)
marysham - May 01, 2008 11:16 AM EDT
Jas, you have an interesting gallery with a variety of different things. You captured the special atmosphere of the village...beautiful.
alandrapal - May 01, 2008 06:05 AM EDT
Oh, how pretty this is! Would love to wander around there at leisure. And see you all again, too, of course! I just viewed the larger version and it's gorgeous. I bet you could sell a lot of these photos, Jas.
Jas - Mar 25, 2008 06:18 PM EDT
Thanks for your very nice comments Bruce. Yes, I, too, could imagine characters from a Dickens novel roaming the streets too. :)
Alfresco - Mar 25, 2008 10:20 AM EDT
A beautiful place, very nicely captured. All that's lacking is brick or cobblestone pavement; it's easy to imagine characters from a Dickens novel in the scene. Bruce
Jas - Mar 25, 2008 09:42 AM EDT
Thanks Carol. Yes, it is rather quaint which is probably why it's so popular with tourists. :)
shutterbug - Mar 23, 2008 03:54 PM EDT
What a gorgeous quiant village, beautiful photo! Carol
Jas - Mar 23, 2008 01:04 PM EDT
Thank you Anne, for your very nice comments. These buildings have been here for many years, so I guess, it would have looked just like this (minus the white wash on the walls), maybe a hundred years ago. The thatching on the roofs is a very old country craft, which is, sadly, diminishing. I guess, if no one has this skill then they would have to put tiled roofs on which would spoil the character of the buildings somewhat. Anyway, thank you for looking and your thoughts are always appreciated. :)
anne - Mar 23, 2008 09:57 AM EDT
How very beautiful. I fell in love with it at once and yearned to be there. The roofs and the chimneys. It seems a note from the past - or maybe just a lovely quiet evening scene. The roofs are definitely Picturesque!!
Jas - Mar 18, 2008 04:22 PM EDT
Thanks Talsi, it is really pretty there. Glad you liked it. :)
talsi - Mar 17, 2008 09:08 PM EDT
What a beautiful scene - like a painting.
Jas - Mar 17, 2008 11:56 AM EDT
Thanks to Mary, Lorraine, Whittler and Chriss for all the lovley comments on this scene. We're very lucky that we have several small villages like this, here on the island. :)
chriss35 - Mar 17, 2008 03:14 AM EDT
Beautiful captured Jas and no traffic or people, just the image for a picture post card
whittler113 - Mar 16, 2008 04:47 PM EDT

lorraine - Mar 16, 2008 03:27 PM EDT
A beautiful image and viewing the larger size is a must.
marysham - Mar 16, 2008 02:20 PM EDT
Beautiful capture of the old village especially when you view the larger size photo. I like the framing too Jas with the little touch of adding your name on the photo corner! :)
