About This Image

Bald Eagle "Sonsie" showing his magnificent wingspan, which can range from 6.5 feet to 8 feet wide. Bald eagles length ranges between 31" and 37 inches long.
Their nests weigh over 1 TON! and are 6 Feet in diameter and 6 feet tall.
Sonsie has water droplets on his wings & back, as the handlers were "misting" the birds with a hand held sprayer, to keep them cool. Not sure if the droplets show up in the condensed version here.

thanks so much, Anne and Vicky for the lovely comments, much appreciated. And Nancy, am so late in finding your lovely comment here too, almost a year late. It's so hard to believe you are no longer on this earth with us. Another star shining in the night sky now, bless you.

Alandra, in the thumbnail it looked as if he was in flight. Beautiful detail of a gorgeous Bald Eagle. Vicki

A magnificent pictre of the Bald Eagle. I liked the white head and the white tail feathers - really set off the darkness of the wings. And what a wonderfully beautiful wings!!

thanks very much, Alex and Beverly, glad you like it. Was sorry I couldn't get the wingtips in. Was also surprised about the weight of their nests, Beverly. There's an empty eagles nest near the great horned owls nesting area, but we only see it from a distance so don't get the idea of exactly how huge it is.
