About This Image

Here's the baby of the blind mama raccoon, playing with a leaf in our fountain area today. The antics were so comical, as can be seen here, where the baby's standing up on its hind legs as it's so excited to have found the LEAF! lol A few minutes earlier, it had found a small stick or stem of a plant and was carrying that around and playing with it. (will post that image asap). Everything is new to this baby animal, - it is so very playful. At one point it got so excited that it fell down in the water and sat on its rump, getting quite surprised at having a totally wet tail afterwards, and after examining its tail with its front paws, it ran off amongst the plants at side of water, for a few moments :)

Hi Tania, thanks for the nice comments, am glad you liked it - as you wrote, it's very entertaining, - I got such a laugh from watching this funny little character that evening. They kept leaving and returning to the water, - I guess the baby wanted to play more :)

Alandra who needs television when you have a back yard like yours. You have comedy, drama and action playing out in your yard

thankyou Karen, for the comments and interest. Know what you mean. I was hoping the blind mama raccoon would not have a baby this year, but can't do anything about the wild animals. The raccoons here normally do come out at nights, but if there's something wrong with their health/injury etc, or if they have babies, we've noticed they come out in the daytime, before the other raccoons appear, as they think they are safer I guess, without the agressive males perhaps, to attack the babies. Am not really sure, but that's what we've noticed over the years.

How lucky he is to have a safe place to explore. I always worry when there is just one baby incase something were to happen to the mother. Love that you are getting to document its childhood! Thanks for sharing. Our raccoons usually come out at night.

thanks again, Janice. Little does the baby know that he's so famous :) It's just in its own simple little world, where a leaf holds amusement for it, following it's blind mama around. I wonder if it will lead the mother raccoon when it gets older, as the last years baby did.

I'm speechless. He is cute in wonderment. We should start a fan club.
