About This Image

A different angle from this Great Egret. I have been shooting him for some time, as he haunts a couple of the places I go for wading bird shots. Just after this photo I discovered he had a hook embedded in the right side of his neck. Two of the cast net fishermen who have been feeding him for the last couple of years, when advised of the hook, lured him in and caught him. The hook was removed and some ointment applied. But, hey, one really PO'ed bird later...!!

Same thing happened in Key Largo. "George", a White Heron, had a hook and tangle of monofilament in his throat. We finally had a liveaboard resident LASSO him, got the bird lady to take care of him and he was released. No kidding - they really get PO'd! Great shot.

This is a great shot!! I like the way the picture elongates the height of the bird.

I like the way the perch matches his toes. Nice shot.

forgot to say, am glad the fish hook was removed from the egret's neck.

great shot! would love to see a great egret, but think they aren't around this region. we get lots of Great Blue Herons tho, but so far have not got a good shot of one.
