This is our prominent landmark, the Wind Wand (invented by kinetic artist Len Lye) doing what it does best. I took four shots within 30 seconds on a moderately breezy morning, so you can kind of see what it does if you check all four in order. Sorry, I couldn't figure out if I could put all four in one shot (someone please enlighten me if I can! lol). Comprising a narrow red fibre glass tube, 200mm in diameter, the Windwand stands 45 metres high on the foreshore of New Plymouth. Weighing approximately 900kg, the Wind Wand can bend at least 20 metres. At night, a light at the top of the Wand emits a soft red glow. It's 'dance' relies totally on the wind, which is why I thought it was a good candidate for the "Winds Of Change" category. The changing strength of the Taranaki winds determine how & where it bends.
