A Teaser of What's to Come

Watkins Glen State Park in New York celebrated its centenial as a park in 2006. It's the most visited location in the Finger Lakes area, boasting 19 waterfalls and more than 800 steps in the paths around the gorge. (And about a 500 foot elevation in the process.)

The reason for the title? In the winter and early spring the park is closed as the ice makes the paths treacherous. On our first visit last week this 'teaser' was the only visible indicator that this is a gorge to definitely hike . . . but the trails won't be opened til the end of May! We were able to walk across a suspension bridge, 83 feet above the narrows that lead to this final waterfall at the edge of the town of Watkins Glen.

Mother Nature likes to remind us of our vulnerabilities, Tania! We were under a tornado watch a few days ago - and that rarely happens around here. vicki

That is bad luck about the lightning strike. Mother Nature is tough but beautiful. We have just had a record amount of tornado's in Taranaki with Millions of dollars damage.

Thank you Tania - I'll be happier when our WiFi is repaired at our campground. It's been down after being zapped by lightning two weeks ago! Vicki

am so behind with seeing all these great images, this one included, Vicki. Can almost hear the roaring waterfall, and can't wait to see more. Sounds a wonderful place to visit.

Hi there, Steve, Carol and lorraine. It's almost mean to see just that smidgen of a waterfall and not be able to explore further . . . the trails will be open soon - and the map looks mighty intriguing! Vicki

Well, Vicki, I'm hooked and I can't wait! This is a great image in its own right, though.
