kauri Gum

: kauri Gum; The kauri cone that I have in my gallery, well this is the gum that this tree produces, the gum diggers had rods that they pushed into the soil and they could tell by the feel of what it hit if it was gum, a rock or tree root, it must have had some sort of value at the time, I think that they properly still do, but mine are keep sakes from my grandmother; Created by: Lorraine.; Tools Used: Fuji S9500; Created on: Nov 2006; Image Views: 264; Average Views per Day: 0.2; Image Number: 32275

Neat stuff, I like the color too. It may have been used as a type of glue, natives here in the states used pine gum/sap as a hafting material for holding stone points on their shafts for arrows and spears. Nice shot! Don

A beautiful picture, lorraine. Like Mary it reminded me of amber. I love amber and it looks as if I love kuari gum also. I kept some of the amber that oozed out of one of the trees here in our little park - just because I thought the little pieces were a pretty color, reddish and orange, and I liked the feel of them. *g*

It's very pretty and I thought it resembled Amber so I did a google.com search on it. Found lots of interesting info. It was used in making varnishes and linoleum and does resemble Amber.
