The Seven Sisters

This group of trees really caught my eye. Located on the backwaters of Salt Fork Lake in Ohio. They stuck out against the leafless gray hills in the background. I didn't realize until I had a closer look that they were pine trees. I hope they aren't dying or dead, could they be a type that loses their needles in the fall? Don't know. Thanks for looking, Don

This, I know, is a great picture. The trees are known as Taxodium distichum or Bald cypress. They turn a bronze color in fall and hold the color until early or mid winter. Many, who own property with such trees, believe they are evergreen trees because of the way they look and grow. Some people have even been known to cut down such trees because they thought their evergreen trees died. Anyway, this photograph shows earth's beauty to its fullest. Great job!

Beautiful shot! The 'rust' colour is amazing on these trees. Would like to know if the 'sisters' are ok. Keep us posted. :)

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It may be pine beetles golda, not sure. I did find out that there are bald cypress trees in Ohio that do lose their needles in the winter. I had never seen them before, and I'm hoping that these are them. I'll check them in the spring to be sure. Thanks again, Don

Don,we have a pest in B.C.that is causing alot of pine trees to turn this color. It is a northern pine beetle, and it is eating it's way through our forests here in Canada. The wood that is the by-product of these trees has a distinct blue color.

The color is beautiful. They remind me of the cedar trees we have in Texas that turn this color in winter.

Magnificent shot. Really stand out against the leafless trees in the background. If they are dead or dying, which I hope they are not, you have captured a rare and beautiful moment in their lifespan. The framing for this shot also works well.

So very nice. The "Seven Sisters" stand out so nicely from the drab background. Almost 3D.

I love the range of colours in the trees, from brown to almost red. The only deciduous conifer I know of is the larch, but there are others, so maybe these trees are OK!

really pretty, Don, and also hope the trees are not dead. Recall noticing similar colour on another lister's photo of this type of tree, recently, and was surprised to see the change in colour, as hadn't realized some change in the fall, so hopefully that's all it is.
