Sundial and Lake Blanche

Sundial and Lake Blanche

This is probably the most picturesque lake in the Wasatch Mountains. If you make it to Northern Utah and only have time to do one hike, this is the one to do. It's three miles to Lake Blanche, but plan on doing an extra mile or two to explore the area. Everywhere you turn, there is something new and exciting to see here such as raging waterfalls and two more lakes. Start early and bring lots of water, sunscreen, and energy packed food. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.

The mountain looming overhead is aptly named Sundial.

This picture takes one soaring - high above that wonderfully curved mountain to the delicate clouds and from there to the white snow? on the mountain. Of course, the reflections in the water, literally take one's breath away - just the beauty of above and below!!

Thanks Stephany. Lake Blanche is my favorite hiking destination in the Wasatch mountains - specifically Big Cottonwood Canyon.

After I bought my first digital camera, I really started getting into the whole photography thing. It was a point and shoot 3.1mp Kodak, and since pictures were free to shoot (no processing costs), I wasn't afraid to take lots of pictures and experiment with different things. I missed shooting with the Nikon N60 SLR, but I have to admit that a compact P&S is a lot easier to hike around with.

About the same time, I was laid off due to the dot-com bubble bursting... my current employer ran out of Venture Capitol money, which was a common thing at the time. While this hurt us extremely bad financially, I suddenly had a lot of free time on my hands. When I wasn't looking for a job, I was hiking and shooting landscape pictures.

This picture is the reason The Lens Flare exists today. At the time, it was my best photo and I wanted to show it off so I created the first version of TLF and uploaded my favorite 50 or so images.

It's funny how things can start out so simple.

The mountains enclose you and create a little world of your own -a world of beauty and safety. It seems to hold you right there in peace, love and beauty. Thanks for the beautiful picture.

Very nice photo of Lake Blanche and Sundial Peak. Isn't that the lake used for the Wasatch Mountaineering Club?

excellent shot with use of foreground rock and the lake leading the eye to the mountain. Utah has some great scenery.

Wonderful clarity in this photo, especially on the water. It's a lovely place to take a pic - and could even be in the South Island of NZ (except for the 'wrong' trees)

Think they'ld let me put a cabin up there?

Great shot, if you could do a sunrise or set would be great as the water would be even more calm.
