Boy with dolphin

This is a low angle view of a famous bronze statue on the Thames Embankment in Chelsea, London. Technically I was pleased with this as I managed to maintain some detail in the statue despite the fierce backlighting.

On the contrary Mike, I think your critical views are very interesting! On this particular shot, as I explained I was quite torn between removing the building and leaving it. And it looks like everyone else is too!

i would just like to say that leaving the building adds to it.. take it away and you have bright white background not pleasing to your eye ..however what one persin sees and another is two differnt views and tastes .. so i think it works fine ...but am no critic....

Thanks to you both, Don and Alandra.

I was very interested that you both suggested removing the building. I had exactly the same debate with myself, and very nearly did exactly what you are proposing. In the end I didn't because I wanted the shot to be "grounded" by some reference to what was around it to reinforce the fact that this was a straight capture with a low angle of view, rather than a more abstract cut-out. I also liked the fact that the building provides some warming colour contrast to the cold tones of the bronze. But this was a close call, and I fully take your point about the building's distraction. On balance, given your reactions, I suspect I took the wrong decision on this one!

forgot to add, great capture, also Steve,- as you say, esp with the harsh lighting.

Agree with Don, would also consider removing the house from the side, and tiny bits of the chimneys from beneath the dolphin.

Lovely bronze! Have always loved the "boy & dolphin" tales. Believe the book Anne mentions is "This Rough Magic" by Mary Stewart, - read many of her books years ago, and would like to read some again. Think there is mention of dolphins in that book.

Interesting sculpture Steve. Nice shot of it. The building in the lower left tries to pull my eye from it. I would wipe it out I believe, but it is still a very nice capture. Don

This picture reminds me - for some odd reason - of a Mary Stewart book of years ago - written about the youth - boys AND girls - doing tricks on the back of the a Bull, I believe. Fantastic Athletes All! Great Shot
