thankyou Steve, - glad you found the info interesting, and that you pointed out about the "lookouts" - hadn't thought of that, but you're right. This scene was of the "narrower end" - or the leading part of the flock. Further back, the flock was much wider across the field.

Interesting thing I noticed, is that even on the ground, the geese seem to form a V formation, as they do when in flight!! There was a definite "point" at the front of the group, and it widened as it went further back.
