An interesting question, Beverly! Although this version has more in it, with the rusting pipe adding new textures and colours, I think that somehow the composition has actually suffered as a result. I think this is largely to do with that sharp shadow of the pipe which drags one's eye straight out of the picture, and for me it breaks the composition up in a way that makes it fall apart, if you see what I mean. I'd prefer to see two separate photos, one of the pipe which has its own beauty of colour and form, and then the existing shot of the sign which already works so well.
