River Cottage, Alresford.

River Cottage, Alresford.This thatched cottage stands across the the River Arle at Alresford, Hampshire, and dates back to 1258.
It was once a Fulling Mill, Fulling was a two-part process of cleaning new-woven cloth.
1. by soaking it in clean water and beating it, usually with water-drivan paddles;
2. the cloth was thickened by scrubbing it with
"fuller's earth"(aluminium oxide)which provided a good texture and initiated bleaching,a process later completed by the cloth-owners who streched the cloth out to dry over a wooden frame called a "tenter".
